Very, very belated drabbles that I owe. Feel free to wallop me 'round the head, y'all, I probably deserve it for being so behind!
For
popkin16, from all the way back to my Valentine's Day request meme.
"Because," Ashura had told him, "the world is much more than this."
It's more true than he ever could have expected.
::
He's a born tourist, he finds. For — oh, for decades, he'd been content to stay within the borders of Ceres, but this chance to wander from one world to the next, staying long enough to absorb the flavor before skipping on to someplace new, suits him far better than a stationary life.
It isn't that he's a runner. Or, well, he is, so it's partly that; he's always been a runner, and some part of him always will be, the kind of man who would rather flee from a problem than risk the insanity of facing it head-on. But there's so much in the universes, so much to see and do and flee from and laugh at and cry over and taste and caress and —
And suddenly it's not just running from, it's running to. It's him running to the next sunset, the next ocean, the next open market or stakes race or sentient library. Suddenly, it's something he doesn't want to give up; suddenly, it's something he wants to do for the rest of his life.
Kurogane understands.

They're on the roof of a building, slumped over the rail; Fai can pick out Syaoran's brown hair and Sakura's lighter chestnut from the crowd.
"Hope they don't spend all our money on candy again," Kurogane says, abruptly.
Fai reaches out into the open air and unfurls a hand; little eddies of air dance around his fingertips. "Ah, don't be so grim, Kuro-tan. They're just children, so let them be children for once. Besides," he adds, "you ate most of their chocolates yourself."
"Che," Kurogane says, which, as far as Fai can tell, means, Of course I ate their chocolates, but I'm not going to admit it to you.
Fai looks out, past the outskirts of the city — it's more a village, really, but it's also the largest settlement in the country — out to the lush grasslands that spread from the horizon. They'd arrived just after the rainy season, and although the locals assured them that the grass took on a golden wheat color for most of the year, Fai had trouble imagining it, surrounded as they were by so much verdure.
"I think," he says, "that if I could pick any life for myself, this would be the life I'd choose." The revelation startles him; it's far more than he intended to let slip, but Kurogane simply casts him a sidelong glance.
"Yeah?" says the ninja. There's a pause. Kurogane shifts closer, so his shoulder just nudges against Fai, and at length he says, "Me too."
Fai smiles. For once it reaches his eyes.
For
youkohiei_fan, from the timestamp meme; this takes place some time after "And See My Heart Is Black."
The man is sitting against the brick wall, his legs drawn up, forearms resting across his knees. From one hand dangles a watch, swinging in short arcs on a chain of many colors.
Seishirou studies the man over the top of his sunglasses, then, with the air of a man who has all the time in the world, draws a pack from his pocket, shakes out a cigarette, places the cigarette between his lips just so and lights it, one hand cupped around the end to protect the flame from the wind. He tucks his Zippo back into his pocket and takes a long drag; only then does he address the man.
"So," he says. "The Dimension Witch says we're to travel together."
No response.
"Such rudeness," he says, and takes another drag from his cigarette, "not addressing your new companion."
No response. A lesser man would be cowed; Seishirou simply does not care.
"She also tells me you're a king."
That gets a reaction. The man finally looks up, ragged blond hair falling across eyes that are very blue, very blue and very broken.
Ah, Seishirou thinks, pleased. This looked to be far more interesting than he'd first anticipated.
Very blue, and very broken, the man's eyes are; so broken, in fact, that they might as well be green.
