Kirk! He's pointing out what I've kind of noticed a lot in mind meld fics -- the conversations that are half aloud and half telepathic -- and while usually that kind of thing is conducted privately, it's only natural for it to kind of bleed into everything else.
And while Spock and McCoy are all lovey dovey and normal and old-married coupley, they need Kirk to sort of... insert suggestions to fix what he sees they lack.
Although, seriously, what conversation were McCoy and Spock having in the mess hall during breakfast? Are we sure that they haven't already thought of telepathic sex? o.o
